What is IPL?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is the process of using filtered light (where Ultraviolet and Infrared Wavelengths are removed) to ensure a safe progressive hair removal system. We use the EFB Adéna IPL machine at 'The Beauty Clinic', one of the newest technologies on the market, super quick, virtually pain free IPL systems as well as the only patented machine that works on White/Blonde/Red hairs and darker skin types.

How does it work?
To remove Dark Hair: The IPL Light is pulsed through the skin and is then absorbed by the melanin (pigment) within the hair shaft and hair follicle, this then generates heat, which loosens and disables the hair forming cells. Disconnecting the hair follicle from its blood supply.
To remove White/Blonde/Red Hair: As the pulsed light cannot find the presence of melanin in Blonde/White& Red Hair we use a different process targeting the blood vessels directly using heat to prohibit hair growth literally from the inside out.
What will the area look like after treatment?
Because we are causing inflammation to the skin you can expect to see redness and swelling, a bit like a mild sunburn. These will reduce over the following hours of treatment, however some redness/swelling can last for up to 24 hours.
Does it hurt?
For most people there is virtually no pain. The feeling of the treatment is variable from person to person, but often is described
How many sessions are required?
As with all IPL machines, we can only treat hairs that are in the active Anagen phase. Approximately 20% of all hairs are in this Anagen phase at any time. We recommend for Dark Hair up to 8 sessions at 6-8 weekly intervals to best allow treatment to reach as many Anagen hairs as possible. For White/Blonde/Red Hairs treatment is usually a little longer, with best results seen between 10-12 sessions.
It is really important that you attend your appointments as recommended by our consultants to be able to see the best results. Treatments done longer than 8 weeks will affect the growth cycle and will most likely negatively impact your result.
Does it give permanent results?
As long as the hairs treated are in the Anagen phase, your result will be permanent. Some hairs may grow back due to hormonal conditions of the body (for example pregnancy/menopause), but most hairs if they do grow back will be thinner and lighter. We aim for an 80% reduction of hair at the end of your Treatment Plan. Between 7-21 days after treatment you should see some of the treated hairs begin to purge (fall out) from the skin. It is usually by treatment 5 you start to notice a considerable difference in hair reduction.
Please be aware, this is a medical treatment and we are not able to promise 100% hair removal, as very few people will ever see this amount of reduction. Due to a number of factors (hormonal conditions, medications, ageing etc) each individual will have their own result. We are not able to offer any guarantees regarding your results.
Complications are rare with IPL treatments, but you must understand and accept that it is possible you may receive some marking on your skin as a result of treatment. You may experience redness of the skin, which usually disappears in a few hours. Blistering is possible, but will heal in 7-10 days. DO NOT pop the blisters or aggravate the skin. Please make sure you immediately notify 'The Beauty Clinic' of any adverse reactions so we can give you the best treatment advice.
Pre treatment care
DO NOT: Wax, pluck, tweeze, use depilatory creams, electrolysis or bleach the hairs about to be treated. We need at least 1mm of growth to be able to treat the hairs. If in doubt, please leave long and we will trim for you. Avoid any sun exposure to the treatment area.

If you have any concerns at all regarding your IPL treatmenmt. please dont hesitate to contact the clinic.
